"58% of organizations surveyed by WorldatWork only gave their performance management systems a "C Grade or below." To consistently perform at their peak, employees need regular feedback to know what's expected of them and how they measure up. Yet 58% of organizations surveyed by WorldatWork only gave their performance management systems a "C Grade or below." The ideal upward spiral to an employee achieving their performance best is a daily process, yet many employees feel they don't receive feedback vital to continually improving their performance often enough. Annual reviews, feedback forms, and even formal evaluations and written performance appraisals are not enough to fast-track your employees' learning curve. Too many performance management systems don't provide clear, practical, ACTIONABLE feedback regularly. Nothing can affect performance more than confusion or ambiguity in regards to what's expected. If employees don't know what's expected of them, how can they live up to those expectations? Constant feedback throughout the year (in addition to an annual written appraisal) is the only way to maximize employees' effectiveness in their jobs. People crave feedback daily. If they're doing a good job, they want gratitude. If there is a better way to do their job they want and need to know. | "Too many performance management systems don't provide clear, practical, ACTIONABLE feedback regularly." While annual performance appraisals are still valuable, they have nothing to do with keeping your workforce engaged and improving every day. To achieve maximum improvements, the spotlight falls on the managers in your company who directly interact with employees. They need to take advantage of those everyday interactions to constantly and consistently communicate meaningful, actionable feedback. If someone does something exceptional, let that person know, in the moment. If someone could do better, let them know right then how they can improve for next time. It could be argued that this is the single most important impact immediate supervisors can have on your company's overall bottomline. And you'd be surprises how much this informal, in-the-moment feedback helps employee engagement and morale. It is one of the easiest ways to demonstrate that you value your employees. And even feedback delivered with the goal of improving performance conveys to staff how their everyday actions really do matter. As baby boomers pass the torch to millennials, company's are finding that this feedback is considered a requirement. These younger employees are constantly asking for feedback to know if they're on the right track. Give it to them -- and watch your company prosper.
